A clear one-page brief can prevent weeks of avoidable delay. These six prompts help surface the decisions that matter before any code is written.
Most delayed projects are not technical failures. They are unclear decisions that surfaced late. A one-page brief forces those decisions to the front, where they are cheap.
Answer these six things
- Who is this for, and what do they need to do in under a minute?
- What single action counts as success — a call, an order, a sign-up?
- What must exist on day one, and what can wait for version two?
- Who owns the content, and does it already exist?
- Who signs off, and how fast can they respond?
- What is the date that actually matters, and why?
Then keep it visible
Keep the brief attached to every review so scope changes are conscious choices rather than quiet drift. It gives everyone a shared reference for what is being built, what success means, and what timeline has been agreed.
